Together with Millicent Weber from Australian National University and Melanie Ramdarshan Bold from University College London, we are investigating the way that nation is configured and reconfigured as a book goes from national to international success. Some of our key research questions include the following:
- What are the events in the life of a book that springboard it from a nation to international context?
- Which books make this transition and which do not?
- How are books from each of these countries received in one another?
- Do these national borders still make sense in defining “literature” and to what extent does nation configure reception?
- Does digital transcend or reinforce these borders?
- How is this related to legal and policy understandings of production, circulation, and reception?
